One of the fastest rising stars of the last five years in entertainment has been Katy Perry. After a humble start to her singing career, Katy has become one of the biggest draws in the industry and has cranked out an impressive selection of number one hits in just a short period of time. Katy Perry - A Gospel Singer?

Born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, she chose the stage name Katy Perry and began her singing career as a teenager in 2001. Her initial pursuit was a career in gospel music and she even released a debut solo album in that genre in 2001 entitled Katy Hudson. She followed that up with a collaborative effort with The Matrix and recorded another solo album, but the solo effort was never released.

Katy Perry tickets were not a popular item throughout much of the early 2000s until the release of her smash hit single "I Kissed a Girl." That single was released in late 2007 after Perry signed a recording contract with Capitol Records that April. Her second album, One of the Boys, was released in 2008 and followed by her third album, Teenage Dream, in 2010.

    Perry's Rise to Fame

At this point Katy Perry's career was skyrocketing quickly. Two songs from her third album, "California Gurls" and "Teenage Dream," hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts before the album was even released, and would later be followed by "Firework," "E.T.," and "Last Friday Night" which all reached number one as well. That album became the first from a female recording artist to crank out five number one hits and just the second album ever to do so after Michael Jackson's Bad did so in 1987.
